I love my role as Storyteller at Lakeside. Describing the plot God is unfolding for us every day, through his scriptures and in our lives, is a privilege. Jesus is a master storyteller—I aspire to be like him. My wife, Donna, and I started Lakeside in 1987. God’s calling in my life is to tell his story and the story of his church in our community and in this world.
My focus is to lead Lakeside’s staff toward healthy leadership, cohesive team development, and effective ministry in alignment with our mission. I have a passion for leadership development and as a part of Lakeside’s teaching team I love communicating the ancient truths of Scripture in creative, relevant and compelling ways.
Curators collect, create, protect, educate, invite, interpret, and reorient. The word, "curate" means to take care of. I work closely with a variety of ministries to create engaging experiences, moments, environments, and spaces. I also serve as part of the weekend teaching team.
John VoelzPastor/CuratorPastor of Adult Ministries - Care & Connection
My heart is to help those who feel broken or needing connection to find it. This life can be hard at times and my goal is to help people see they are not alone in their struggle. Being authentic and real about the not so pretty parts of life is where Jesus can do the most beautiful & transformative things. I feel honored to be a part of a community that is all about this!

I say quite often that I have the best job in the world. Truly, it’s just the best job for me, and I couldn’t imagine doing anything else. My favorite part of this role is working with the incredibly talented teams of musicians and artists that make up the various Worship Arts teams. I also get to oversee the creative and planning processes for our worship gatherings alongside several of our other pastors and leaders.
